Padavimas byloja, kad ežero vietoje stovėjusioje Tytveišos ar Tytuvio pilyje tėvas prakeikė sūnų šio vestuvių dieną. Kilus perkūnijai, trenkė žaibas ir viskas nugarmėjo į ežerą. Manoma, kad ežere vaidenasi: kada kildavusi audra, ežere pasigirsdavo baisus triukšmas. Iš dugno sklisdavo prakeikto sūnaus skundas ir aimanavimai. Pasakojama, kad ežere nuskendusi Komaro duktė ir kiekvieną naktį saulei nusileidus, iki jai užtekant, prie ežero ji verkia ir skalbia baltinius.
