Padavimas byloja, kad senovėje tas kalniukas buvęs gražus ąžuolynas. Ten amžinai rusenusi Perkūno ugnelė. Ugnį kurstydavo 12 bernelių ir 12 mergelių. Jie turėjo 10 dievaičių. Lietuvoje įvedant krikščionybę, vienas vyskupas atvyko čia naikinti senojo tikėjimo, bet nuo Šatrijos kalno apsižergę šluotas oru atlėkė kerėtojai ir raganos. Jie užmušė vyskupą ir jo palydovus. Paskui su kariuomene atvykęs kitas vyskupas dievaičius išdaužęs, užgesinęs amžinąją ugnį, o toje vietoje pastatyta bažnyčia (1581 m.).
